For a 1920s home check for knob-and-tube wiring before insulating walls. It is not safe to insulate over active K&T wiring. Have an electrician assess first.
General rule: you should not embed wiring inside spray foam unless the wire is properly derated for reduced heat dissipation. The NEC has specific rules under Article 310. Encasing Romex in foam reduces its ability to shed heat.
Intumescent coatings like No-Burn or DC315 are your best bet if code requires a thermal barrier and you do not want to hang drywall. Make sure the coating is ICC-ESR listed for your specific foam.
